Organisers
The organising team is from the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (D-EAPS) at ETH Zurich.
Who we are
Leila Mizrahi
Leila is a postdoctoral researcher and the leader of the Statistical Seismology group at the SED. After completing her Master's in pure mathematics and spending a few years in the insurance industry, she came to the SED for her PhD in statistical seismology. Leila mainly works on earthquake forecasting in various settings: model development, testing, and operationalisation, which she applies to both natural and induced seismicity. She strongly believes that bringing together people with different backgrounds enables innovation and progress.
In her free time, Leila loves to travel, climb, enjoy good music with friends, and think about different kinds of infinity.
Vanille Ritz
Vanille is a postdoctoral researcher at the Swiss Seismological Service (SED), where she is part of the geomechanical modelling and microseismicity analysis groups. After a Master's degree in Seismology and an engineering degree in geophysics from the University of Strasbourg, she pursued a doctoral degree at ETH Zurich on the modelling of induced seismicity in deep geothermal systems. Her expertise covers geomechanics, statistical and physics-based models for the understanding and forecasting of (induced) seismicity.
In her free time, Vanille likes to bake, sew, and play the violin in small ensembles, chamber or symphonic orchestras.
Aron Mirwald
Aron Mirwald is a third-year PhD student at ETH. After graduating in physics from Humboldt University of Berlin, he investigated the source processes of intermediate-depth earthquakes in his Master’s studies at UNAM. Currently, he focuses on studying the distribution of magnitudes (b-values) and developing statistical methods to determine its variation in time and space.
Outside his research, Aron is passionate about science communication and education. In his free time, he enjoys juggling, cooking, and learning languages.
Marta Han
Marta is a third-year PhD student at SED working on mainly ETAS-based earthquake forecasting models, focusing on seismicity in the European region. Prior to joining the Statistical Seismology group at ETH, she completed her Master's degree in Mathematical Statistics at the University of Zagreb (Croatia) and worked briefly as a software engineer in AI.
In her free time, Marta loves travelling, hiking (at a slow pace), and spending time with friends.
